Welly’s journey into the world of songwriting began after his dad showed him the video for Pulp’s ‘Common People’ in response to him saying he “didn’t really like music”. Mind blown, young Elliot was awestruck at how powerful such simple but wildly clever storytelling could be put to music to create such an instant reaction in him and others.
Their debut album Big In The Suburbs was released in spring 2025 and was choc-full of terrifyingly whip-smart pop songs that celebrated all aspects of Great British Life, replete with the grit, mundanity, madness and beauty that it entails. Welly are now back with Skinny Boy, the first installment of the exciting collaboration between the band and producer Ed Buller (Pulp, Suede).
Elliot explains, "Skinny Boy is about going to a club and being surrounded by a carbon copy of the same bloke 100 times, like the nightclub is a hall of mirrors, each with a ratty moustache and a Tate Britain tote bag”
